A New ERP System for a Mobile Operator

Client

Bite is Lithuania’s second largest mobile telecommunication company with more than half a million customers.

Challenge

From the beginning of their activities in 1995, Bite has been using Concorde XAL for their ERP management. The system was adapted to specific needs of the company, including the management of finance, fixed assets and sales. Bite has since grown to be one of the leading mobile operators, offering a full range of mobile connection, data transmission and Internet services. The old ERP system was no longer able to fulfil the growing requirements of the company and needed to be updated.

Bite decided to extend their ERP management infrastructure by improving the effectiveness of their branches’ activities. Bite was using a custom-developed system for branch services management, which was only partly integrated with external interfaces. Ineffective data replication produced mismatches in the accounting data and resulted in a lot of manual operations and data duplication.

Bite also needed to install HR and Payroll management systems in order to increase employee satisfaction and develop internal know-how.

Solution

Having gained knowledge of Bite’s business processes, we were able to propose of a new ERP system. This system, which fulfilled the additional requirements to manage resources at Bite, is based on Microsoft Business Solutions’ Axapta.

We wanted to achieve project targets and to guarantee the smooth operation of the new ERP system, running it as efficiently as possible. To this end, we started with the optimisation of the system in use and the transfer of data to the new system. Precise planning and the management of testing, training and deployment of the new system were also central to the system’s success.

Our specialists analysed the difference in principles of data storage between the system in use and Axapta and prepared the necessary tools for data migration. The system migration was executed according to strictly planned actions of Bite and our professionals. More than 200 users started to successfully take advantage of the new system soon after its implementation.

For branch services management, we designed and developed a complex, online, Axapta-based solution that operated on Bite’s data transfer connections. We also developed a new module for POS, allowing mobile phone repair management, payment card and cash payment collection, and effective purchase, inventory and logistics management. The module was integrated with other customer services systems used in branches. Fourteen Bite branches simultaneously began to provide advanced quality services thanks to the new system.

Our professionals carried out a challenging Axapta HRM and Axapta CIS Payroll integration, which is unique in its scope across the Baltic States.

The new ERP system at Bite was one of the largest ERP implementation projects of such kind in Lithuania. The overall project duration exceeded 500 man/days. The system was implemented at Bite’s head office and 15 remote branches connected online. There are over 200 active users.

Methodology

The main success factor of the project is the professional project management from both companies. The project was also certified as being compliant with Microsoft Business Solutions Partner Implementation Methodology.

Technologies

Windows 2000/XP, Oracle 9i, 9, Microsoft Axapta Enterprise 3.0, MS Terminal Server 2003.
