Computer network for Kuršių Linija and its subsidiaries in Western Europe
Customer
One of the largest cargo haulers in the Baltic States, Kuršių Linija was founded in 1995 and belongs to the UAB Arijus group of companies. In 2005, the company established subsidiaries in England, Germany and the Netherlands.

Challenge
The customer was in the process of opening new subsidiaries in England, Germany and the Netherlands where IT hardware/software had to be implemented and new work places equipped. The company’s central office was located in Lithuania, thus the key task was to interconnect all the subsidiaries into one computer network which could be maintained by a single IT services provider based in Lithuania. The challenge for us was to centralise the maintenance of the subsidiaries in which the employees speak three different languages, as well as to provide them comprehensive assistance and ensure uninterruptible performance.

Solution
The subsidiary in England was established by purchasing a company with IT hardware already in place. Therefore, we only had to arrange the work places and synchronize them for on-line work with the databases in Lithuania. In Germany and the Netherlands, however, there were no existing systems and new offices had to be equipped and new IT hardware implemented.

All these IT systems were designed and purchased in Lithuania and, at a later stage, implemented in the subsidiaries in cooperation with partners from England, Germany and the Netherlands. Further system configuration was carried out on a remote basis, i.e. from Lithuania. The project implementation process involved the effort of different specialists highly skilled in the areas of network management, infrastructure and IT implementation. Upon project completion, the customer received a full package of IT services including versatile consultations, remote supervision of work places, the monitoring of system performance and other IT-related services.

Customer benefit
Project implementation was completed in June 2005. Now, the central office of Kuršių Linija and the company subsidiaries are under a single effective maintenance. Irrespective of the scattered geographical locations of the subsidiaries, major IT system maintenance and supervision is performed by Alna Intelligence on a remote basis.
