Disaster recovery solution for SAMPO Bank
Customer
SAMPO Bank is a member of the large financial services provider SAMPO Group, based in Finland and servicing over 2 million customers all over Europe.

Challenge
The motto of the bank is “SAMPO will make you stand strong and safe”, reflecting its view that the key factors of its reliability are security, stability and the fast execution of transactions. In pursuit of ensuring high-quality service to customers and the safety of web-based transaction operations, SAMPO bank had to ensure security of the data processing centre operations and implement a disaster recover solution, this being developed by Alna Intelligence, based on the specific needs of the bank.

Solution
The disaster recovery project consisted of several following stages: analysis of customer needs, selection of technical solutions and implementation of the selected solutions.

To ensure selection of the most suitable way to handle the problem, Alna Intelligence first investigated the needs of the bank, identified the potential threats and selected the technical architecture.

Based on the results of this analysis, the disaster recovery solution was developed and implemented to ensure uninterruptible provision of banking services under any circumstances. In addition to technical aspects, this solution also included contingency management procedures. The model of contingency management provided clearly defined time limits for disaster recovery and key points.

The system was tested at Alna’s Software Development and Testing Centre and approved by SAMPO’s bank management in Finland. It functions as a back-up for central database components, thus ensuring continuous operation even in case of a hardware/software failure or human error. It enables the bank to ensure sustained provision of services free of any disturbances and saves its customers from the burden of system errors.

Customer benefit
As a result of project implementation, the supply of SAMPO’s banking services were expanded and 24-hour global access e-banking services were created. Today, every fourth customer of SAMPO bank is a user of these services and over 80 percent of bank operations are processed via the Internet. The disaster recovery solution developed by Alna Intelligence provides steady support to SAMPO’s e-banking services.
