Alna Affirms its Commitment to Develop Socially Responsible Business
Alna Group joined the Global Compact, which unites business companies, the United Nations Organization and the civil society. The Global Compact, which aims to raise companies’ social responsibility in the areas of human rights, workers rights, environment conservancy and combat of corruption, already has 40 members among Lithuanian business companies and organizations.
The Global Compact was introduced during United Nations World Economics Forum and it strives to promote responsibility among companies: not to harm the environment, society, other businesses, and jointly with the UN, governmental institutions and non-governmental organizations to take part in solving social and environmental problems, thereby furthering the development of society and economic growth. Currently, more than 2 thousand companies, international and civil society organizations from all over the world take part in the Global Compact.
“By joining the Global Compact, we are trying to promote the expression of corporate social responsibility in Lithuania, therefore, we support the idea of the business, which comprehends the responsibility of defending people’s and worker’s rights, the importance of environment conservation and the reduction of corruption," says Mrs. Justina Gumbienė, the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Alna Group companies. The Global Compact membership testifies that a company is globally considered as socially responsible, which is a very important indicator when trying to get established itself in new markets. “From now on we will be able to exchange our experience, knowledge and innovations, related to relevant business problems with other organizations; we will receive the UN information about the processes of development and their practical goals in the world. This will help to increase the efficiency of our company’s activity,” says Mrs. J Gumbienė.
In 2005, 40 Lithuanian business companies and organizations joined the Network of Lithuanian National Responsible Business Companies, which acts as an integral part of the Global Compact network. Berlin Chemie, Commercial Union, „Achemos grupė (Achema Group), SEB Vilniaus bankas, Mažeikių nafta, MG Baltic, Lietuva Statoil and other companies are the network members.
